I bought my first car last year. It is a 2009 second-hand Toyota Camry Hybrid with 220,000 miles. I paid $2800 for it. It works really well and has only needed the usual maintenance so far. I spend about $40 in gas every month (5% back through [Costco Anywhere Visa](https://www.citi.com/credit-cards/citi-costco-anywhere-visa-credit-card)) and $80 in insurance every month. When I was without a car for 2 months, I spent $160 on Uber/Lyft just to go to and get back from work. I also had to pay extra money to get my food/groceries delivered. Owning a car makes sense for me right now. But [autonomous vehicles are coming](https://robotracker.app/updates?city_id=&operator_id=) and will make [the cost of taxis plummet](https://x.com/i/trending/1986285419596517641). The $160 I spent on Uber/Lyft every month will become $40 and the cost difference between getting my food delivered and getting it myself will become negligible, largely because I would no longer have to tip the driver. There is no driver! ##### Owning a car will no longer save you money. Would you really need your own car when you will, in 2 minutes, get a Robotaxi that will take you wherever you need to go for a couple of dollars? Would you really want to own a car when you could avoid paying for the car, gas, insurance, and repairs? I think you will either own an autonomous vehicle (that you will turn into a taxi when you're not using it) or you will not own a vehicle.
